Toys for Toddlers Product Review #1: Silver Bunny Books

in baby shower ideas: children's books

silver-bunny-booksI have to say, I was not sure what to expect from this item. Silver Bunny Books are series of illustrated and narrated digital stories specifically designed for your iPhone. I love my iPhone, so when Silver Bunny Books contacted me and asked me to review these, I thought “sure!”

I was pleasantly surprised. The stories are narrated in a great tone, and even give you the option to record your own voice telling the story. The illustrations are wonderful, and the pace of the book is quite brisk (a must have for toddlers).

As for the toddler review, I have to caveat this feedback with the fact that my son associates my iPhone with one thing: the Star Wars application that simulates with imagery and sounds the Jedi light saber of such fame. My son adores this application, and especially enjoys light sabering anyone he meets while using it. Even if that person is his pediatrician.

So I was curious to see what the young Jedi would think of something a bit calmer.

He actually made it through all of the Easter story we were sent to try. I could tell the pace of the narration and the changing pages were keeping him entertained. By the time we got to the last page, I had visions of me redeeming myself with the pediatrician during our next visit, as she walked in to find us calmly reading this cute story about a bunny and his friends sharing and doing kind things for each other. No light sabers or crazy jumping moves around the doctor’s office; I would be the parent with the calm kid reading the book modeling good behavior.

As I pondered the words she would use to compliment my excellent parenting, I looked down to see my son had already punched the button for the main screen and started the light saber application, dashing my daydreams right there. But I have to say, I think less Jedi-inclined children will love these stories, as will their parents. I know KKRRR’s children, who outscore my son hands down on the calmness meter, will quickly become addicts.

So head on over to Silver Bunny Books and check them out! There is a new one posted each month. It is a great tool for parents who want to encourage their child to read without having to lug around a heavy book. And if your child happens to be somewhat like mine, don’t worry. Just make reading one story a prerequisite for light-sabering, and you can visit the doctor’s office completely guilt free.
