It appears that UC Irvine scientists have found a hormone, specifically the corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), which can indicate during pregnancy if the mother is going to suffer from post-partum depression.
What a fantastic and much needed development! I guest blogged the other day about how medicine, understandably, lags behind in understanding of complicated pregnancy and pediatric issues because of the ethical problems involved in testing and conducting studies. This discovery about how to identify and treat post-partum depression before delivery is a welcome and much-needed advancement. Hurray for science!
