THE DETAILS
I grouped these two books together because they are written by the same authors and are a natural set for prospective parents to buy or receive as a gift. In fact, it is almost cruel to give someone only one of these. The Essential Organizer for Baby’s First Year was not available when my son was born, but I was so accustomed to recording aspects of my health and his in The Essential Organizer for Pregnancy that I just kept using it. To this day, I write down the details of his doctor’s visits and immunizations in its “Notes” pages. I “think” inside that book in a way I do not without it.
These books are, hands-down, the best planners/baby organizers I have ever seen for managing pregnancy and that difficult first year. They are clearly organized and divided into useful sections. The information is helpful but not preachy. This is not a keepsake journal or a medical diary; it is a professionally-created organizer designed for women who are used to (and to some extent, who like) tackling a complicated task by breaking it into its logical parts, planning the steps needed to reach a solution, and tackling those steps one by one.
In this case, the tasks range from from writing thank you notes for baby gifts to recording the baby’s feeding, sleeping and bathroom schedule. But the management approach to all of these jobs is the same: clean, clear organization.
I. love. these. books. beyond. measure.
Also? If you are about to become a grandparent or a great-grandparent, I think these books do a good job of showing you very quickly what the trends are for parenting these days and the expectations and pressures that new mothers today face. It might be worth picking up a copy of The Essential Organizer for Pregnancy for that reason alone. Just something to think about.
