Okay, okay, so now it’s a Thursday Morning Memo we’ve got this week. The holiday travel and sales are a killer combination for my normally-like-clockwork posting schedule. I’m hoping you’re out there with me and haven’t noticed the delay!
This week’s Memo is just in time for you to use up all those empty boxes and extra wrapping paper you have around the house. Diaper boxes, toy packaging, and shipping boxes of all shapes and sizes are all you need to construct a giant pyramid for your 6 month – 2 year old to climb and walk on.
Cover the boxes in wrapping paper, tape down all the edges with packing tape so they resist the wear and tear, and then tape the boxes together in a mass of interesting shapes.
Some things to keep in mind:
*non-slip paper, such as drawer liner, will work as well, but it tends to disintegrate quickly with a lot of wear and tear; packing tape on wrapping paper seems to hold up the best;
*be sure to get those edges and seams tightly sealed;
*use sturdier boxes, such as toy boxes or diaper boxes, over more flimsy packaging;
*consider wrapping four to five boxes together at a time – later on you can “connect” other sets of boxes as your child grows to make the pyramid bigger and bigger;
*always supervise your child when using the boxes.
This is a great, inexpensive way to give your young child lots of exercise and gross motor skills development time, especially on rainy days when you cannot make it to the park. If you need to store it, just snip the connecting pieces of packing tape and stick the boxes in a closet.
So get out there and buy a few super-discounted rolls and start wrapping (again!)
