THE DETAILS
The Bumbo is one of those slightly controversial items on which people have all sorts of opinions. Because there were a few incidents where some parents put their babies in these soft, foam seats and then sat them on countertops or tables, Bumbo had to issue a “recall”-ish warning in 2007 telling people not to use them in this way. If you are willing to apply some common sense and spend the $40 on the nicely colored foam, we found the Bumbo to be an incredibly useful piece of gear, albeit one with the same life span of that infant car seat you had to buy and then stow after less than a year.
The real pleasure of using the Bumbo is that when babies are first learning to sit up, and first learning to eat solid foods, the Bumbo is a supportive seat that helps them achieve both of these feats more comfortably and more quickly than other devices. Obviously, they should not be kept in the Bumbo for very long (no more than 20 minutes, really). However, after four months of being the only vertical force in your baby’s life, you will enjoy those twenty minutes almost as much as your child.
